Sherwood M. Dixon, MD, FACS
Dr. Dixon was born in Reno and attended college at the University of Nevada in Reno. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. Dixon completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of California – Davis where he was awarded the best chief resident and best resident teacher by his peers. He then completed a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of California in Los Angeles as well as an Endovascular Surgery Fellowship at Mercy Regional Heart and Vascular Institute in Muskegon, Michigan. He became Board Certified in General Surgery in 1982. Dr. Dixon founded Endovascular Services at Renown Regional Medical Center. He and GVA led the way to adopting endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm with the first such repair performed in Neveda. His interest in stroke prevention led him to conduct 2 research trials locally in carotid stenting that helped define the role of this technology. He served 5 years on a national panel of experts consulting on new products innovations for a major company. His more than 33 years practicing vascular surgery has given him exceptional experience in managing vascular disease from Varicose veins to PVD, carotid stenosis and aneurysm using the latest minimally invasive techniques but also major operations when necessary.
